Samsung Chromebook Review
The fifth iteration of Samsung Chromebook reviewed and critiqued.
Purely technically speaking, this is actually the fifth Chromebook, if you count Google's prototype, and it has really come far. The Chromebook does not run on a conventional operating system, instead it uses Chrome OS, basically an OS just for using the internet.
The Chromebook uses several different intel chips, this model uses an ARM processor - specifically the Samsung Exynos 5 dual. This is a dual core processor at 1.7GHz. The ARM processor is incredible in itself, creating almost no noise, as well as taking little and less room which in turn contributes to the Chromebooks slim outlook. It also packs an SSD, though it is only 16GB and purely meant for caching while you are browing. There is also 2GB of RAM, 2 USB 2.0 ports and a USB 3.0 port. While 2GB of RAM might not be enough for running several applications at the same time, it is more than sufficient for the task the Chromebook is made for - web browsing.
Its performance throughout is just fine, considering the hardware. Sometimes the video stutters and stops while playing HD movies, not only due to bad connection. Games run poorly, but all around it is pretty stable.
The Chromebook is a nice laptop, perfect for internet browsing, writing and traveling. It is cheap, light and easy to use. The keyboard is also excellent. The negatives are its limits; namely web apps only, lackluster screen and in some places, no 3G options. It is also insufficient for HD videos/streaming and gaming.
Samsung is truly very good at doing what they do. If you appreciate the Chromebook, I must advice you to take a look at the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and/or the Samsung Galaxy Tablet
